Mountain Month

Hey all!

Everything is just spiffy up here lately. All the leaves are gone and so is Summer. People are heading back to the lower 48 and leaving me to tough it out in the cold.

It has snowed several times in the last week.

The biggest news of the last month is that Mom and Dad came for a visit. We spent a few days camping on the coast and then came up to the Park for about a week. Weather on the coast was a tad crappy, but it was beautiful for the following week. I think that they hiked about every trail in the park while I was at work, and seemed to enjoy it. After a very competitive selection process, they were signed up as official National Park Service Volunteer Field Assistants and we went on an overnight trip into the park to visit a sound station and replace a fuel pump battery. We saw a booming mountain sunset, along with many bears, Ranger Jeff, and other wildlife along the drive. It was great to have them for a visit and I think they had a fun time as well.

All but one of the sound monitoring stations are packed up and my field season is coming to a close. Lots of headphone time is on the horizon.

Brent is in Germany now, though I haven't heard from him in a few weeks. I hope hasn't eaten too much schnitzel. Check out his blog: http://www.brentonineurope.blogspot.com/

The title is Mountain Month because as I went back through my pictures, I saw that most were of the mountainous variety.

Hey dummy. Cool pics. Mom and Dad look like they had a pretty sweet time and I've been hearing a lot about the trip from them.

Looking forward to your own adventure on the other side of the world? Ready or not, here you come!
